Week 1's readings

A few thoughts to share on this weeks readings and how libraries operate effecively via tchnology

- Libraries need to constantly update computers, replacing old ones with new ones every few years, this is mandatory for students and patrons.

- Software and hardware should be updated and upgraded

-Libraries should appeal to the consensus, but still serve the community. The library I work at we have a problem with over-use and abuse of computer priviledges, including patrons playing games while students need compters for research - we have a special section set up for both types of people

-Borrowed Laptops is a great idea, people might feel more comfortable with a laptop rather than sitting at a PC lab

-Security is a big issue - both theft and virus attacks can damage computer usage, I like the Deepfreeze software that Lied uses

I really enjoyed reading the article about the Lied Library, I hope this serves as a technology model for other libraries.
